We are thrilled to share the news that Ida Jessen will be honored with the 2025 Rungstedlund Prize, bestowed upon individuals who have made outstanding contributions, particularly in fields that once inspired Karen Blixen, or who have otherwise proven themselves deserving of such distinction. Previous laureates include Meryl Streep, Lars von Trier, and Peter Høeg.

Michael Bjørn Nellemann, chairman of the Rungstedlund Foundation, sees certain similarities between Ida Jessen and Karen Blixen in terms of their choice of subjects: “Karen Blixen’s stories revolve around fateful events and crucial life choices. Ida Jessen is similarly preoccupied with how people face life’s great challenges. Like Blixen, her extensive body of work has both depth and breadth and testifies to a storyteller of the highest caliber, making her a deserving recipient of the Rungstedlund Prize,” reads the award citation.

Karen Blixen established the Rungstedlund Foundation in 1958. With the support of her siblings, she donated her childhood home, Rungstedlund in North Zealand, and her literary rights to the foundation. The prize is awarded at Karen Blixen’s Bird Sanctuary on the first Monday in September.
