DE BEDSTE FAMILIER – EVEN IN THE BEST OF FAMILIES

IN EVEN IN THE BEST OF FAMILIES, we delve into the tumultuous story of a company called Cheminova, which moved its factory from Zealand to Lemvig in 1953.

WITH THE ARRIVAL of the factory, the otherwise sleepy West Jutland town experiences growth and a boost in welfare and standard of living. The downside to this welcome progress is that workers at the factory are being exposed to various poisons and that chemical waste is being discharged into the sea.

FEARING THAT THE factory will move and take both jobs and the economic prosperity with it, no one dares to speak out about the negative changes that are being wrought on a once quaint little rural town. When is the cost of progress to high and how far are people willing to go to be a part of it?

EVEN IN THE BEST OF FAMILIES takes a close look at the history of Denmark in the period after World War II all the way up to the modern Danish welfare society.
