AGMALL SARWARI WAS born in 1982 and grew up in Borås. He currently lives with his family in Stockholm where he works as a doctor. The Silkworm is his debut novel.
The impulse to write this novel came during the pandemic.
[L]anding in the pandemic hangover, finding that we had been worn down and noticing more clearly than ever the surrounding cracks, in society, between people and in people. So the pressure built up inside me and in order to vent the excess, I wrote in the evenings and at weekends, to get thoughts and images down.
The thousands of lives I have encountered in my profession as a doctor have obviously inspired me. After conversations, I picked up shards left behind and tried to make them fit together, and a pattern became increasingly clear to my eyes.
For perhaps in this I find a way forward.
