KRIGARE – WARRIORS

BY HILDEBRANDT, JOHANNE

In May 2010 the five hundred Swedish soldiers from F519 left for Afghanistan to “maintain the peace and support the local population.”

There they encountered a reality that they never could have imagined. They were subjected to violent attacks by the Talibans and heavily armed drug dealers, forced to deal with a corrupt police force, kidnappings and road bombs as well as having to endure endless hours of waiting.

Johanne Hildebrandt followed the soldiers of the company from their training to their risky mission in one of the world’s poorest countries. The result is a unique report about the Swedish contribution in Afghanistan. A necessary book for those who think they know what becomes of the soldiers that Sweden has sent to war.
