LOTTEN LIVES AT Södermalm with her children, widowed after the docker Henning passed away. Three children at home, one of them chronically ill. The oldest son with his adoptive parents, living a far richer life but missing home. Emelie, the oldest daughter, becomes a provider at the age of 12, working in a soap factory. Their Stockholm is undergoing a furious development during these years at the end of the nineteenth century.
