SANNE SØNDERGAARD IS a Danish novelist, feminist commentator, and former stand-up comedian. Originally trained as a journalist, she has been a prominent voice in debates on gender equality and women’s rights for more than two decades, combining sharp social observation with wit and literary ambition.
SHE MADE HER literary debut in 2008 with the young adult novel Dear Die-ary and has since published a number of acclaimed works spanning fiction, memoir, and short stories. Her writing frequently explores questions of gender, power, identity, and the constraints placed upon women’s lives. Among her best-known books are the autobiographical Solo and the short-story collection NEJ (No), which examines the difficulties women face in asserting boundaries and expressing their needs in a culture that often rewards silence and accommodation.
SØNDERGAARD’S EARLIER YA titles have been translated into German, Swedish, and Korean.
IN HER LATEST novel The House, Sanne Søndergaard intertwines two women’s lives across generations, using a mysterious forest house to explore grief, artistic creation, and the hidden structures of patriarchal power turning the novel into a haunting and deeply unsettling reflection on love, obsession, and the stories we tell ourselves.
SØNDERGAARD LIVES NORTH of Aarhus with her partner, two teenagers, and a squirrel that appears to consider the garden its personal property.
