IN THE EARLY 1800s, young Liza is still in a loveless relationship with the charming but brutal smuggler John. The years have passed, and the strong-willed Liza has become increasingly disheartened by her situation and longs for a quieter life.

THERE IS WAR and hardship in the small coastal town on the English Channel, and John’s smuggling business has become increasingly brutal and violent. One night, a ship bound for London capsizes outside the town. On board is the handsome Danish doctor Anders Lind, who manages to save himself and his fellow passengers.

LIZA AND ANDERS meet and experience an instant attraction. But what Anders doesn’t know is that Liza knows more about the shipwreck and what caused it than she immediately reveals. When Anders has to continue on to Denmark, Liza cannot go with him, because her deepest secret is holding her back.

BUT THE TRUTH about the shipwreck soon catches up with Liza, and after a violent confrontation with one of John’s accomplices, she decides to embark on a long and dangerous journey to Denmark—where her sister lives and where she may meet the handsome Anders Lind again and start a new life.
