THE GREATEST DANGER II completes the first volume’s political and personal biographical portrait of Erik Scavenius: the disinherited son of the nobility, the impetuous head of government and the womaniser.

IT IS 1942. For two and a half years, Foreign Minister Erik Scavenius has been fighting for Denmark’s independence under the occupation, ever since the King incurred Hitler’s wrath. A new Reich Commissioner, Gestapo chief Werner Best, is sent to Copenhagen: now the country is to be Nazified. Scavenius now considers his role as protector of the country and its people to be over and intends to resign. But the new Reich Commissioner – who is not only an elegant and cultured younger man, but is also known as the ‘Bloodhound of Paris’ – forces him to become Prime Minister.

A POWER STRUGGLE begins between the two men. But who is the stronger of the two? Where does the line between submission and integrity lie? And what sort of friendship is blossoming between them?
