JAG SER ALLT DU GÖR – I SEE ALL THAT YOU DO

By Annika Norlin

On the road between Jokkmokk and Kåbdalis, in the shadow of the largest greif a person can carry, a song begins to take form. Nothing special, just five stanzas, however the woman singing them gets a light in her step by each lyric. She walks south.

In her literary debut Annika Norlin portrays a group of people, whose lives don’t feel quite right, chafing against their existence.

It’s a collection of short stories about desire and validation, about the cult movie ‘Alien’ at the Pite River, about being a part of the pretty hopeless band ‘Personal Brand’ and about walking head first into the night with the sight set on Glommers Marsh.

REVIEWS

“Brilliant debut novel. / / one of the most literary poignant authors I have encountered in the past few years.”

Dagens Nyheter

“An original debut in tune.”

Svenska Dagbladet

“The short story collection is marked by a linguistic creative joy and the exploration of heavy subjects is mixed with everyday observation. Not least Annika Norlin has the ability to be funny.”

Skånska Dagbladet

“Norlin looks at people with tenderness – she seems to love people so dearly that the reader kind of becomes nicer only by spending time in that look.”

Aftonbladet

“ Here in the midst of its subtleness there is a grand depiction of something indescribable. But the thing that really moves you is the strong sensation of identification with all things living. In I See All That You Do the odd meets the normal and the serious meets the humor.”

Norrköpings Tidningar

“Annika Norlin has a unique talent in portraying pretty ordinary situations and atmospheres with people, who at least on the surface, seem normal. At the same time she extracts almost universal insights from it.”

Länstidningen Östersund

“… lovely reading all the way through.”

Värnamo Nyheter

“Tender stories open up for the light in Annika Norlin’s debut.”

ETC

“Even if several short stories touch upon sad topics, the storytelling is not dark but filled with warmth. Life is not black and white, there are so many nuances and Annika Norlin captures them with sensitivity and accuracy.”

Folkbladet

“… makes me capitulate completely. Norlin portrays people whose dreams are bigger than what they are capable of carrying – with insight and a perfect ear.”
