THOMAS IS A police officer in the prime of his life. He has always loved too much. Now he also hates too much. He fears that the end of European civilisation is nigh. Everything inside him and around him is falling apart. That is why he has married the vicar Catrine, who believes in the best intentions in everyone. He must not let her down. Nor must she ever know that he is not who she thinks he is. But when he meets Aisha in connection with a murder and forces her to help with the investigation, he may well experience love for the first time. Or is it hatred that drives him to watch over her and gain access to all the secrets of her life?

THIS ENCOUNTER DRAWS him into a secret world of extended families, where everyone fears one another within an intricate power structure with roots deep in society. But first and foremost, he meets a woman who must keep her thoughts and feelings to herself for fear of the consequences. A person just like himself.
