Two Nordin authorships have been selected for Göteborgs-Posten’s Best Books of 2025 list, Heléne Holmström with When the Light Fades and Elisabeth Åsbrink with Requiem for a Mother. Together, the books span different forms and expressions, yet share a depth and clarity that have resonated strongly with critics throughout the year.
Motivation for When the Light Fades:
Romance with real people, or at least almost real people. Women with agency, men with depth, high-level escapism combined with a generous dose of recognizable surroundings. A work of craftsmanship that takes the reader seriously, while bending the rules of the genre just a little bit.
Motivation for Requiem for a Mother:
With sorrow and dark humor, Åsbrink tackles a powerful taboo. The daughter is relieved that her mother is gone, “at last.” The tone is matter-of-fact, searching, sometimes furious. The result is true poetry.
