The much-anticipated eighth part of Emelie Schepp’s Jana Berzelius Series, Alter Ego, is now out in Sweden, published by Norstedts.
In an interview with Norstedts, Schepp shared this about her new novel:
It was both challenging and exciting to return to Jana’s universe after the standalone crime novel One Hundred Days in July. The relationship between her and Danilo has changed. She has always wanted him dead, but now she is the only one who can save his life. There are two scenes at the end where everything comes to a head. I was eager to write them, and I think they will surprise many readers.
And she had some exciting news about Jana and Per:
Yes, in the book there is a dramatic scene at Durkslaget, the restaurant in Norrköping that has been part of the series from the beginning. And now Jana and Per are going to get their own table and their own menu – for real. We’re opening it in early December. Of course, it means a lot to me, and it shows the power stories can have when fiction becomes reality.
[Emelie Schepp] has written yet another thrilling suspense novel that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat until the very last page. With the help of credible dialogue and in-depth character descriptions, Schepp skilfully holds the story together, with subplots reinforcing the main storyline. Hopefully, Alter Ego is far from the last book about Jana Berzelius, as there is still much to explore.

On a quiet early summer evening, a man is found unconscious and stabbed in his car. He has no memory of what happened or how he ended up there. Shortly afterwards, Norrköping police officers Henrik Levin and Mia Bolander make a horrific discovery at the home of the man’s ex-wife. Both she and the couple’s son have been brutally murdered. The intention seems to have been to wipe out the entire family. But the daughter survives, and she claims that her father is innocent, even though everything points to him.
Prosecutor Jana Berzelius digs deeper into the family’s secrets, but finds more questions than answers. Who is lying? And who is telling the truth?
At the same time, a man from her past, Danilo Peña, is in grave danger. Jana has always wanted him dead. Now she is the only one who can save him.
