A Dark Legacy by Agnete Friis is out today in Denmark, published by People’s Press. The novel is the second instalment in The Astrid Skov Series, about former police officer Astrid Skov and her assistant Sara Verdi.
Former police officer Astrid has returned to Copenhagen and set up her own private investigation practice. She is contacted by a new client, a young family man whose uncle has just been released from the secure psychiatric ward in Slagelse. The uncle, who is schizophrenic, was committed to a psychiatric facility fifteen years ago for the brutal murder of his sister, her new boyfriend, and her daughter. Now the client fears that his uncle will contact him and his family, so he asks Astrid to track down the uncle so he can take the necessary precautions.
At the same time, young Sara has gotten herself into financial trouble. Now that she’s living alone and has had to take care of her sick little brother David, she’s fallen into bad company and suddenly finds herself without a place to stay. She seeks out Astrid and is allowed to move in for a few days, but it quickly turns into something more. To pay for her stay, Sara begins helping out at Astrid’s company.
When Astrid’s client’s five-year-old daughter disappears shortly afterward from his villa in Måløv, the situation becomes critical, and Astrid and Sara must work together to find the missing killer – and hopefully the five-year-old girl – before it’s too late.
