We’re proud to share that Susanna Alakoski has been awarded the 2026 Birger Norman Prize, one of Ångermanland’s most prestigious cultural honours.
Presented annually since 2011, the Birger Norman Prize recognises individuals and groups who carry forward the spirit of the celebrated Swedish author and journalist Birger Norman through their engagement with working-class issues, rural life, and northern Swedish culture.
The jury praised Alakoski’s lifelong literary commitment to depicting class and social inequality with “poetic storytelling, great linguistic precision and a profound belief in the power of words.”
